Got your free credit report but have no idea what you’re looking at? Here’s how to read it like a pro:
Personal Information: Social security number, employment data – make sure everything is accurate
Credit Accounts: Your credit history – loans, credit cards, mortgages, balances, and payment history
Credit Inquiries: Who has requested your credit report? Hard inquiries affect your score
Public Records: Bankruptcies, foreclosures, liens, lawsuits – they can stick around for up to 10 years
Collection Accounts: Debt that’s been turned over to collection agencies. This section can seriously hurt your score
