You can spend years building your investments and still be forced to empty them in a few months.

A serious illness or injury does not stop your mortgage, groceries, or monthly bills.

Without protection, your retirement savings may become your emergency fund.

Insurance is not meant to replace investing.

It helps protect your investments so one difficult season does not erase years of progress.

If you could not work for six months, where would the money come from?

Message me PLAN if you want to review the gaps in your financial protection.

You got the raise, but if every extra dollar becomes a new payment, your life will not feel any easier.

A better salary should create breathing room.

For the first 90 days, keep living on your old income. Use the difference to build your emergency fund, reduce expensive debt, increase your investments, and review whether your income and family are properly protected.

After that, decide how much you can enjoy without undoing the progress you just made.

You worked hard for the raise. Enjoy part of it.

Just make sure it improves your financial life before it upgrades your lifestyle.

If your pay went up by $500 tomorrow, where would that money go first?

08/04/2026

People usually start thinking about financial protection after something goes wrong.

After the job loss.
After the diagnosis.
After the accident.

But by then, the money may already be needed and some options may no longer be available.

Build the emergency fund while you are earning.

Review your coverage while you are healthy.

Make the plan while life still feels normal.

What part of your finances have you been telling yourself you will deal with later?

08/01/2026

Doing nothing can feel easier because fixing your finances seems like one massive task.

Pay off the debt.
Build savings.
Buy insurance.
Start investing.

But you do not need to solve all four this weekend.

Start with the problem that would cause the most damage if it happened tomorrow.

Would it be an unexpected expense?

Missing a paycheque?

Or leaving your family with bills they could not afford?

Which one needs your attention first: savings, debt, protection, or investing?

A raise can disappear faster than you think.

A nicer car payment. More takeout. A few “I deserve this” purchases. Before long, your new income feels exactly like your old income.

That is why I would not upgrade anything right away.

Give yourself 90 days.

Keep living on your previous income, build your emergency fund, pay down expensive debt, increase your investments, and make sure the people who depend on your income are protected.

Then enjoy part of the raise without guilt.

You do not need to save every extra dollar. But you should decide where it goes before your lifestyle decides for you.

You earn an extra $500 a month.

Then you add a $350 car payment, more subscriptions and more dining out.

Your income increased, but your financial stress stayed exactly the same.

A raise only changes your future when you decide where it goes before it disappears.

The coverage or savings plan you started years ago might have been completely reasonable at the time.

But then you bought a home. Got married. Had children. Changed careers. Started earning more. Took on new debt.

Your life changed, but did your plan change with it?

A financial plan is not something you set once and ignore forever.

What has changed in your life since you last reviewed yours?

Having an RRSP, TFSA, and workplace pension can make you feel prepared.

But having accounts is not the same as having a retirement plan.

Do you know how much income those accounts may give you?

Do you know which money will be taxable?

Do you know whether it could last for the rest of your life?

You should not have to wait until retirement to find out whether you saved enough.

Message me RETIREMENT if you want help putting the full picture together.

You get paid, cover the bills, make a few responsible choices and somehow still wonder where all your money went.

That does not automatically mean you are irresponsible.

Most of us were taught how to earn money, but not how to organize it once it arrived.

Start smaller than you think.

Write down what it costs to run your life for one month. Check how much emergency money you currently have. Then look at your total debt without judging yourself.

Which of those three numbers do you know right now?

A raise should create breathing room❗️

You finally get a raise, then suddenly you need a newer car, a better phone and more expensive weekends.

A few months later, you are earning more but still waiting for payday.

Before you upgrade your lifestyle, use part of that raise to build an emergency fund, pay down debt or start investing.

The goal is not just to earn more. The goal is to keep more.
