10 BEST TIPS FOR SMALL BUSINESS OWNER'S
1. Why Should Your Business Accept Credit Cards?
It is the year 2017, if your business isn't already accepting credit cards you are already behind on what's going on in this day and age. I know that being a millennial I can count on one hand how many times I have cash on me, almost never. Accepting credit cards not only helps your customer by making their trip to your business not only a whole lot simpler but it also helps you as a business owner keep better track of the transactions going in and out of your business.
2. Know Your Product
Being a business owner you need to assure your customers that you know your product. Whatever service or product you are offering them, you should be able to answer any questions that they should have about it, because you are the one selling it. You should always keep questions in your mind that you think customers will ask, like a FAQ.
3. You are not a CAR SALESMAN! (OR MAYBE YOU ARE?)
A car-salesman attitude or mentality means they essentially try to coerce you into buying their products. They'll convince you that you won't find a better deal than this and that what you are buying is pretty much the best in existence (when it probably isn't). What we want to do is foster relationships through the Human Connection, we want our customer to feel as if we are giving him the best deal and that our product of service will benefit them in the long run. Good salespeople try to build relationships with their customers.
4. Make your goals specific ( HAVE A VISION)
As you are going through the process of starting your business or if you have already started your business you need to make sure you are setting achievable goals for your self in order to measure progress within your business. Starting and owning a business because you just initially want to make money is one thing, you should have a vision in your mind of what you want your business to become.
5. Is this your job or your CAREER?
A job is something temporary, something you are doing only to get by and to guarantee your bills will be paid. A career is something you dream about and you put your everything into. If you are not passionate about your business than it has become your job at that point, and you wouldn't put the amount of time, money and effort into something if it was only temporary.
6. Find your niché and stick with it!
Over time we have watched many businesses come and go. We see people who decide one minute that they sell used cars, next they have a credit repair business, next they're a marketing consultant. Nobody is going to take your dream seriously if you don't take it seriously. When you find something stick with it.
7. Make connections substantial
While being a business owner all connections created to the be beneficial and substantial. You need to make sure that all connections and relationships around are not only helping you but helping them. You want to help other business owners as well.
8. Believe in your product
You don't want to sell your customer a product or product that you wouldn't purchase yourself. You want to have confidence in what you are selling and have the assurance that this is a great product.
9. Stay Relevant
Read, talk to business owners, stay update. Working in an industry where things are constantly changing we always need to stay on top of what we are doing, and make sure we are staying relevant. We need to make sure we always know what going on currently as it pertains to our business.
10. Balance passion w/ wisdom
You need to make sure you have a fine balance between passion and wisdom. Wisdom and having knowledge is always important and always will be, but displaying passion in what you do is just as important.
