When searching for great dividend trades, be sure to check fundamentals and technical analysis before chasing after the Dividend Capture.

This morning, I checked out 16 possible candidates announcing dividends this week and only 4 passed through my screening process.

This extra step should keep you out of buying a weak stock in order to collect the dividend. Happy hunting!

The markets gapped up before the bell and spent the morning retracing back to the open. The major indexes finished the session close to the lows of the day. The S&P was down .28% while Nasdaq was up .06%.

Pre-market futures up slightly this morning but well off their overnight highs. . This morning we will get the Flash PMI numbers which gives us a picture of the strength of our economy. Remember a reading of under 50 shows weakness while over 50 shows expansion. Last month Services was at 52.3 while manufacturing was 49.0. The estimates are some mild deterioration.

Good morning, all. Hope everyone had a great weekend. This week on the weekly training we’ll be discussing weekly versus monthly options in this market. Which do you prefer?

The markets finished the week with its third straight down week. Last time that happened was at the end of September 2022. We have moved into a market correction and we need to trade cautiously until we see a confirmed bullish reversal. We discussed in more detail on our 9:00am call today.

This week we have the Jackson Hole Symposium with a speech by Jerome Powell on Friday. I will treat Friday as a “Fed Day”.

The markets rebounded solidly after a pre-market gap down. The S&P ended the day up .58% while Nasdaq was up 1.05%. Interestingly, we saw a pretty solid day from the Technology sector. It appears that the market remans uncertain if we will see another leg higher or will August be another bearish month. Historically, August has been a bearish month.

Pre-market futures are down by around .5% as we head into the opening bell. Plan for the day is to wait to see how market moves after the open and look to manage/adjust my open 8/18 positions.

Good morning, all. Hope that you had a great weekend. The markets finished out the week with another choppy day Friday. The S&P ended the day flat for the day while Nasdaq was down .68% and the Dow 30 ended the day up .3%. This continues to be a shift away from Tech and into more risk off sectors. Good morning, all. It’s CPI day. The markets sold off all morning only to mount an afternoon rally getting back to break even for the day only to sell off in the last hour of the day. The S&P ended the day down .70% and the Nasdaq finished the day down 1.17%. The markets have erased Monday’s gains but that could all change based on updated CPI numbers. I read this morning that we will see another CPI report before Fed meets to discuss interest rates so this may mitigate any major moves.
