Dealing with a life-threatening illness like cancer is hard enough, but when you don't have friends or family around, the battle can be twice or three times as difficult financially and psychologically. I was awakened to this fact by my good friend, Maria Jones. This is why we are both working hard to support the work that The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society does through its "Visionaries of the Year" fundraising campaign. A word to the wise:

Look beyond the glossy brochures of seemingly happy people and dig into your numbers.

What you don't know can hurt you. There are so many factors that can derail a retirement:

1) Geopolitical events
2) Economic events
3) Health issues
4) Major life events (marriage, divorce, births, deaths, etc.)

At a minimum, you should always check your financial pulse with a financial professional (CPA, PFS, CFP...)
