There have been lots of flood questions floating around so I wanted to hop on and answer a few!

1. Yes you are in a flood zone, you have always been in a flood zone they were just rated differently. Preferred vs Standard

2. Most flood zones have changed, not all, but ALL of them are now rated the same. Which means no more preferred or standard. Every house is now rated individually, like your homeowners.

3. All rates have gone up but if you have an existing policy the rate change is minimal compared to purchasing a new policy. And will go up every year a certain % until you reach current rating on your home.

4. If you have changed from a non mortgage required zone to a now mortgage required zone your agent can help with the process.

5. Renew your current policy on time or you will see the drastic increase. For example, quoted today, previous zone was X and still is. Premium rate before was considered “preferred” and was $560, todays rating for same house, same zone, same coverage is now $2012.

Believe me when I say we all understand the frustration and confusion so do not hesitate to reach out and ask! I hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and sending prayers to all effected by yesterdays tragedy.

This is a reminder to make sure and DO NOT let your Flood policy lapse. IF you do it WILL increase significantly no exceptions. Hurricane season starts June 1st and it is already looking like we may get some early activity!
