I have been wanting to provide an update on my career endeavors. In July, I left my position at the Van Engelenhoven Agency. The parting, like any change, is bittersweet. The Van Engelenhoven Agency was a great group to be a part of for nearly a decade. The team members there are a dedicated group that made working there enjoyable. Most of all, I had great relationships with customers. Many of whom I had the privilege of serving going back to my days at State Farm starting in 2005. To all of my customers, thank you for placing your trust in me for that time.
Leaving that role allowed me the opportunity to open my own insurance agency (Siouxland Medicare Planning) with the niche focus on insurance planning related to Medicare. This is an area of interest because the amount of people confused by navigating the complexity of Medicare and searching for answers.
This insurance advisory role is not new to me, but it is new in how I am approaching it. In the early years, I found myself trying to pull away from Medicare insurance products. But as time passed and as I’ve been able to see how I am meeting the needs of this group, the more I have come to enjoy and grow passionate about it. With that, I’m ready to double down and place my entire focus on this aspect of insurance.
In the change, I am setting up a structure to provide educational opportunities to teach about the Medicare options available. I have seen too many people not fully understand their options and therefore limit their ability to make an informed decision.
The Medicare eligible population is bombarded by marketing content both when turning age 65 and each year during Medicare’s annual open enrollment period. The biased advertising is usually done on a national level and creates more questions than provides answers. I want to be the local resource that people can turn to receive clarity about what their options really are. That said, I advise that you shouldn’t typically respond to a national solicitation as they may push you into an option that isn’t in your best interest, limit your options, and they may sell your personal information to other insurance agents for further solicitation.
My business functions as an independent Medicare insurance agency serving the Siouxland region and I am licensed to sell in the entire states of Iowa, South Dakota, and Nebraska. I ‘m under no obligation to any insurance company to sell their products. I look to match my client's needs to the company and the Medicare option. With a wide variety of companies that I am appointed to sell, I can help clients find the right Medicare supplement plan, Part D prescription drug insurance plan, and Part C Medicare Advantage plan. I venture to say that I offer more options than almost any other agent selling Medicare products in the Siouxland region.
This post started out with the intention to be short, but I have found myself delivering a message that I am passionate about. If you have made it this far, Thank you! I am asking for your help. I don’t have a physical office to meet with people, but there are options available for that. Phone conversations and video chat are other ways that I am conducting meetings. Additionally, I’m facilitating monthly Medicare educational events in the local libraries. Currently these are offered in Orange City, Hawarden, and Sheldon.
