Rate hike.. What does this mean?
In principle, rate hikes combat inflation as consumers and corporations spend less when the cost of borrowing rises. By spending less, the demand to catch up with supply slows, important, given the supply backup through the pandemic. Less demand means merchants will be under more pressure to reduce costs.
This could help in many sectors, particularly real estate. However, the consistent need for certain sectors, such as gas and oil remain a result of supply and demand that will not adjust before the Ukraine situation resolves itself.
