Elise Thomsen - Edward Jones Financial Advisor

Elise Thomsen - Edward Jones Financial Advisor I love my career because I get to help a wide range of people create a road map for turning their dreams into a reality. And the list goes on.

I've helped single mothers make sure their children can afford to get a good education with grants and an achievable saving plan. I've helped retirees ensure they can keep the family home in good condition and spoil their grandkids so they can continue to make memories they'll value for many years to come, without stressing about the bills. I've helped young families put plans in place to ensure t

hey are protected in case tragedy strikes. I've worked with business owners, accountants and lawyers to help the navigate strategies for their corporate holdings to make sure their own needs are met and the company they've built from scratch can continue. If you don't have somebody fully committed to helping you ensure your dollars work as hard as you do, how are you ensuring you aren't missing opportunities? I use an established process to get to know my clients and understand their needs so I can proactively work with them to over the long-term. I believe in transparency around all aspects of investing. I believe a new generation of investors are making ESG (also known as ethical or responsible investing) principals even more important when considering which investments to add to your portfolio. I also focus on educating my clients about the things they need to know so they can make more informed decisions with my guidance. I love it when a client says, "I don't get this" and I get to help them have a lightbulb moment. It is so rewarding to watch them become empowered investors. When I'm not working, I'm usually playing with my young son or volunteering with the Dorchester and District Lions. I love all kinds of animals, a crackling campfire and a good comedy. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or would like a second opinion on your current portfolio. The coffee or tea is on me.

Canada will tax you on your global income if you are a Canadian tax resident. This includes distributions from U.S. retirement plans which you must claim as income when filing your Canadian taxes. However, U.S. taxes may be claimed as a Canadian foreign tax credit to reduce double taxation. Remember to always seek advice first from a qualified tax professional.

Spouse beneficiaries may be able to roll over an inherited U.S. IRA plan to their own IRA, then withdraw from the plan, and transfer the funds to an RRSP without using existing RRSP contribution room. Non-spouses have to withdraw the funds from the inherited U.S. retirement account within 10 years. Edward Jones recommends you first consult with legal and tax professionals. Please contact me if I can help initiate these introductions.
