Awakon Federal Credit Union is proud and honored to announce that it has been selected as the Small Asset Size Winner of the Michigan Credit Union Foundation's (MCUF) Community Enrichment Award.

This prestigious statewide recognition celebrates credit unions that exemplify the credit union philosophy of People Helping People through extraordinary service to their members and communities.

Awakon received the award, June 4th, 2026, in Grand Rapids, Mi., in recognition of its response to the devastating March 2025 Ice Storm that impacted communities throughout Northern Michigan. During the recovery efforts, Awakon provided immediate financial relief to members, supported employees affected by the storm, and opened its branches as places of assistance and support for the community.

In announcing the award, MCUF stated: "In the wake of the March 2025 Ice Storm, Awakon Federal Credit Union demonstrated extraordinary compassion and leadership by providing timely financial relief, supporting employees and opening their branches as places of help for the community. Their response reflects the very best of the credit union mission and a true commitment to people helping people."

The first quarter of 2026, our Ga***rd crew raised funds for the Ga***rd Community Orchestra. Last week, they were happy to present the GCO with a $500 check from their efforts.

Thank you ladies for selling music notes and making desserts for a delicious bake sale and truly supporting our Ga***rd community with BIG hearts!

This quarter they are raising funds to support the Otsego County on Aging, with a Book and Puzzle Sale. Be sure to stop by and pick up some great summer reads!
