🌾 Grassroots Policy in Action!

On September 15, Monona County Farm Bureau leaders joined Farm Bureau members from across Region 12 for the annual Issue Surfacing Meeting at the Four County Fairgrounds in Dunlap.

The meeting brought together 35 Farm Bureau leaders from six area counties to discuss issues affecting farming operations, local businesses and communities. This gathering is an important first step in Farm Bureau’s grassroots policy development process.

Representing Monona County were Dave Bruning, Morgan Christiansen and Caleb Clemon.

We also appreciated hearing updates from IFBF District 4 Director Sharyl Bruning and insight from Iowa Farm Bureau Vice President Brian Feldpausch on the grassroots policy process.

Thank you to all of the leaders who participated and continue to help bring local perspectives forward through Farm Bureau! 🌱

🌾 HARVEST SEASON IS HERE — LET’S GET HOME SAFELY 🚜

As harvest gets underway, Monona County Farm Bureau President David Bruning has a reminder for everyone traveling our rural roads: please slow down and watch for farm equipment.

Combines, tractors and other large equipment are moving between fields and locations, and they may need to slow down, stop or maneuver unexpectedly. A little patience and extra awareness can make a big difference.

🚗 Drivers:
• Slow down when approaching farm equipment.
• Be patient and wait for a safe opportunity to pass.
• Give equipment plenty of space.
• Watch for amber flashing lights and SMV triangles.
• Stay alert for oncoming traffic that may be passing equipment.

🚜 Farmers: We can do our part, too. When moving equipment, allow enough space between vehicles for traffic to safely pass when appropriate.

We all want the same thing — to get home safely to our families. ❤️

Thanks to the Monona County 4-H Foundation, New Cooperative, and Vetter Equipment, enrollment is only $10 per youth for the 2026-2027 4-H year.

💳 Payment options: • Cash • Check (payable to Monona County Extension) • Credit card through 4-H Online

Financial assistance is available upon request.

⚠️ Enrollment fees increase to $20 on December 1.

🎒 The first 50 youth who enroll and pay for 4-H or Clover Kids will receive a FREE 4-H drawstring bag!

💧 The first 15 NEW 4-H members who enroll and pay will receive a FREE 4-H water bottle! New members must not have previously participated in 4-H or Clover Kids.

🪑 Returning 4-H members who enroll and pay by October 1 will be entered into a drawing for a 4-H camp chair and prize package!

A GREAT NIGHT IN MAPLETON! 🌾

Thank you to everyone who joined us last night for the 108th Annual Meeting of the Monona County Farm Bureau!

It was a wonderful evening of fellowship, conversation, and celebrating the people who make agriculture and our rural communities strong.

We were honored to welcome Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig as our guest speaker as he officially completed his visits to all 99 Iowa counties. We appreciate him taking the time to visit with our members and share his perspective on Iowa agriculture.

A special thank you to our Board of Directors, volunteers, members, guests, and everyone who helped make the evening a success.
