Monona County Farm Bureau Promotes Sun Safety at Youth Ag Day

The Monona County Farm Bureau recently took part in a local Ag Farm Safety Day at West Monona Elementary School. At the invitation of Haylee Wachter (ISU Extension C*C), Sharyl Bruning, IFBF District 4 Director, presented a vital lesson on Sun Safety to area students.

The mission of these safety days is to provide the education and resources necessary to make farm and rural life safer and healthier for kids, families, and the entire community. During her presentation, Sharyl shared how sun damage is cumulative and emphasized the importance of being "sun aware."

To make the lesson interactive, students created their own bracelets using ultraviolet (UV) beads. These beads change color and intensity when exposed to sunlight, serving as a visual reminder for the kids to stay safe while playing or working outdoors.
