Another annual tradition in the Cobb house is giving new notebooks to the kids each January 1st. It's a place for them to put their goals individually as well as our family goals and I love the symbolism that a new notebook with a new year brings - a fresh start ready to act!

Here's a few of this year's options: a fuzzy unicorn book, Field Notes steno, and Rite in the Rain flip books.

Each day this week, I'll post about something I love to do as the last calendar page gets flipped over.

For the last several years, we take an evening at the end of the year and look through all of our photos. We pick our favorites and then make a photo book from Shutterfly. We always buy two - one to look through and one to put up in the closet. We've learned that the hard way because these books are some of the most loved books in our home! The kids are always "reading" them and talking about the memories they have made over the years.

It's a quiet few days. But to tell the truth, I love these days. I call them empty parking lot days. I was thinking yesterday that while I worked on the financial health of about 20 families or so - maybe 4 or 5 of them knew I was working for them yesterday. Many others, I was working behind the scenes: evaluating, refining their strategies, planning for future tasks, meetings, and objectives, and looking for blind spots.

I can't say it enough. I simply love my role and what I do for the families I serve.

Krista, the kids, and I all explored a new stream in the Kickapoo Valley Reserve last week. It was awesome to have the bigger kids go explore, the little kids stomp in the stream, and Thaddeus and I even were able to trout fish a bit (just caught one little guy but still!) all in the same stream. The Driftless is an amazing place!

This crazy sight is what my clients saw last week as we were meeting and celebrating that they had crossed the million-dollar milestone! They are millionaires! It's incredible what we can accomplish with time, partnership, dedication, and lots of the right choices along the way!

While Sundays are normally reserved for rest and relaxation, every now and then I find solace in the stillness of my office. What makes these moments truly special? Having Willow with me, joining a tradition where my kids have dropped by over the years. They join me to see what Dad's up to on weekends or holidays, and amidst the work, we create lasting memories together.
