Today, we celebrate the Feast of St. John Henry Newman, a saint whose life reminds us that faith and education go hand in hand.

A passionate advocate for Catholic education, St. John Henry Newman believed that intellectual growth and spiritual formation were essential to helping young people discover truth and grow closer to God. His legacy continues today through Newman Centers on college campuses, where students are invited to deepen their faith, build Catholic community and encounter Christ during a formative time in their lives.

Catholic Future Foundation is blessed to hold funds supporting the St. John Paul II Newman Center in Omaha and the Newman Center at Wayne State College WSC Wildcat Catholic. These funds help sustain opportunities for Catholic students to grow in faith and remain connected to the Church throughout their college years.

Through the generosity of donors, the mission of Catholic campus ministry can continue to flourish for generations to come.

Some educators teach lessons that last a semester. Others leave a legacy that continues for generations.

For nearly three decades, Marcia K. Regan dedicated her life to Catholic education, believing every child deserved to be seen, encouraged and given the opportunity to become the person God created them to be.

Today, her commitment to students continues through the 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗮 𝗞. 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽, established through Catholic Future Foundation to provide tuition assistance for underserved and inner-city students.

It is a beautiful example of what a legacy can do. Marcia spent her life opening doors for young people through Catholic education. Now, in her memory, those doors continue to open.

Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist, and the patron saint of Catholic Future Foundation.

Before becoming one of the Twelve Apostles, Matthew was a tax collector. His life reminds us that our relationship with money and material resources can be transformed when we place them in service to God.

When Jesus called, “Follow me,” Matthew left his old life behind and followed Him. His response challenges each of us to consider how God is calling us to use the gifts He has entrusted to us.

At the Catholic Future Foundation, St. Matthew's example inspires our work to build a culture of faithful stewardship and help Catholics use their resources to strengthen the Church today and for generations to come.

A gift to Catholic education can make a difference today. An endowment can continue making that difference for generations.

The The Gerald F. Petersen Memorial Fund and Shirley & Louis Riha Endowment Fund, held at Catholic Future Foundation, were established to provide a perpetual stream of support for Catholic education throughout the Archdiocese of Omaha.

Each year, these funds support the Archbishop’s Dinner for Education, helping the event provide needs-based tuition assistance for elementary and high school students. And their impact was designed to last. Should the Dinner ever change or cease to exist, the funds will continue supporting needs-based tuition assistance for Catholic high school students throughout the archdiocese.

That is the power of an endowment: a lasting gift with a purpose that continues well into the future.

Congratulations to this year’s Secondary Educators of the Year, Mr. Jason Konicek of Norfolk Catholic School and Sr. Carol Jean Vandenhemel of Mount Michael Benedictine School!

For 22 years, Mr. Konicek has served Norfolk Catholic as a physical education and strength training teacher, technology coordinator and coach. Through each of these roles, he has helped build a culture of teamwork, resilience and faith.

Sr. Carol Jean joined Mount Michael in 2010 and has spent her years there teaching theology and sharing the Catholic faith with her students. A heartfelt and committed educator, she exemplifies the Catholic faith and the spirit of St. Benedict through both her words and actions.

Catholic Future Foundation is blessed to hold the Patricia & Paul Mendlik Catholic Education Excellence Fund, which supports the recognition of outstanding Catholic educators like Mr. Konicek and Sr. Carol Jean. Through this endowment, the generosity of those who came before us continues to honor those forming the next generation in faith.

Both educators will be honored at the Archbishop’s Dinner for Education. Tables are still available for this special evening celebrating and supporting Catholic education throughout northeast Nebraska!
