🌿 Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God 🌿

Today, the Church honors Mary, Mother of God — the woman whose humble yes made room for Christ to enter the world. Through her trust and obedience, God’s promise took flesh, bringing hope and salvation to all.

As we begin a new year, Mary reminds us that faithful stewardship begins with openness to God’s will. May her example inspire us to entrust our lives, our work and our future to Christ, and to walk forward with trust, generosity and hope.

The sign is given: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel.” God is with us. As we enter the final days of Advent, we pause in awe, in love, and in readying our hearts for the Incarnation.

This Sunday ushers in joyful hope. Isaiah proclaims that the desert shall bloom, the blind shall see, the lame shall leap. James urges patience yet reminds us that the Lord comes soon. We rejoice because our salvation is near.

Meet Antonio. He attended Holy Name School-Omaha K-8, supported by scholarships that allowed him and his siblings to remain in a school community they loved. That foundation carried him to Creighton Preparatory School , then Regis University in Denver, CO.

As the new liturgical year begins, we watch, wait and prepare. Isaiah reminds us that the Lord will gather all nations in peace, and in Matthew’s Gospel we are told to stay alert—“for you do not know when the time will come.” Let us open our hearts to hope, live with readiness and trust that God’s kingdom draws near.

🕊️ On this Thanksgiving Day, we remember that the word Eucharist means “thanksgiving.” In every Mass, Christ Himself becomes our perfect offering of gratitude — reminding us that every blessing is meant to be received with thanks and shared with love.

Today, the Catholic Future Foundation gives thanks for our parishes, schools, ministries and the generosity that strengthens the mission of the Church.

🇺🇸 Honoring Veterans Day 🇺🇸
Today, we gratefully recognize James Wortmann, who served our country from 1958 to 1963 as a helicopter mechanic at White Sands Air Force Base in New Mexico. Jim devoted those years to service with skill, humility and steadfast commitment.

After raising their family at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Crofton, Jim and his wife Mary continued that spirit of service by establishing a fund through the Catholic Future Foundation. Their hope was simple and generous: to help other families afford a Catholic education for their children. Today, the Wortmann Fund provides scholarships each year — a living reflection of Jim and Mary’s belief in faith, family and community.

On this Veterans Day, we honor Jim and all who have served — with gratitude for the sacrifices they made and the good they continue to inspire.

Thank you, veterans. 🇺🇸
We remember. We honor. We pray.

🕊️ The Church dedicates November to praying for all souls who have gone before us — especially those in purgatory, who await the joy of eternal life with God. We look forward to the day when “the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God” (1 Thessalonians 4:16) — when the trumpeting angels will announce that their journey home is complete.

🙏 Prayer for the Holy Souls in Purgatory

Eternal Father, I offer You the Most Precious Blood of Your Divine Son Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, for those in my own home and within my family.
