First the bad news. In 2022, the property and casualty (home, auto, business) insurance results were the worst EVER in the history of the industry. For every $1.00 of premium the insurance companies brought in, they paid $1.10 in claims and expenses.

Now for the worse news. For the first quarter of 2023, the industry results were much worse than the first quarter of 2022. In short, things aren't getting better, they're getting worse.
