At Common Ground Coalition's Midwest Summit, our very own Tim Meyer answered some of the tough questions facing the industry, including rebuilding the cow herd, climbing prices and the lack of young producers staying involved.

Everyone here, both at Producers Livestock and Common Ground Coalition, is invested in paving a path for the future of the livestock industry. What an honor to be a part of the charge looking to grow the industry and support producers throughout the generations.

This time of year means the heat gets turned up outside, in the markets and on the grill ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Grilling season and warm weather both drive a shift in the meat markets. We monitor these trends and create a baseline to help tailor hedging plans to best fit your needs. Our team regularly tracks trade patterns, seasonality and beef and pork demand so we can help you make the most informed decisions for your operation.

Protecting your investments is critical, and that applies to livestock as well.

Livestock Risk Protection is an insurance policy designed to protect against declining prices, and the policies renew on July 1.

Beginning this upcoming policy year, there are some LRP changes to be aware of:
โœ”๏ธ Cattle quotes will be unavailable on days of the Cattle Inventory Reports
โœ”๏ธ Coverage now available for unborn calves 600-900 lbs. for endorsement lengths of 30-52 weeks
โœ”๏ธ Maximum fed cattle weight increased from 1600 lbs. to 1800 lbs.
โœ”๏ธ Dairy cull cows maximum increased to 1700 lbs.
โœ”๏ธ Applications and open policies will automatically be cancelled after three years of inactivity, beginning with the 2025 crop year

For cattle producers especially, these adjustments can be a huge advantage to customizing your risk protection. If you want to discuss the benefits of LRP in your operation, reach out to our commodities team ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://bit.ly/3VJxC7b

New CME Cattle limits take place June 1โ€”here's the scoop ๐Ÿ‘‡

- Live Cattle are $8.500/cwt on a standard limit and $12.750/cwt expanded
- Feeder Cattle are $10.750/cwt on a normal limit and $16.000/cwt expanded

Each June, the CME evaluates daily price limits in the Live and Feeder Cattle futures contracts and resets limits based on price variability. The increase in limits is certainly something to consider in your marketing strategy, but these changes happen every year as a result of CME rules.

Another question from our Regional Summit panels, this time from our pork producers!

Where does U.S. pork go?

Exports vary, but Mexico has become a strong customer for U.S. pork in the last few years. Behind them, Japan and South Korea also post solid export numbers. It's a positive sign to see consistent outlets for the swine industry.
