Financial wellness during the holidays may seem like an oxymoron, but there are plenty of ways to keep your finances in shape while not missing out on a single moment!

1. CREATE A GIFT BUDGET: Setting aside a certain amount that you’re going to spend on gifts for others will help you avoid overspending.
2. AVOID USING CREDIT: Spend only what you have. If you do use credit, ensure you can pay it off the next billing period.
3. PRIORITIZE YOUR SPENDING: Savings goals, debt payments, and necessities come first. Think back to the budget you set for gifts—set one for fun as well!
4. BOOK TRAVEL WISELY: Save money where you can while planning holiday travel! It can be expensive to travel during this time of the year, so book early or look for rewards and discounts to save you a buck.
5. WATCH YOUR THERMOSTAT: Heating can be a huge expense during the colder months. Ensure your thermostat is at a reasonable level (and that no one is messing with it!).

The Fed met today immediately following the election, making the decision to cut the federal funds rate by 0.25%, to a rate of 4.50% - 4.75%. The Fed does not set mortgage rates, but it can have an influence on them. So, what does this mean for home buyers?

Mortgage rates have been fluctuating since the previous rate cut in September. Many buyers were hesitant due to various factors—the election, the time of year, or rates not being low enough. The good news is this additional rate cut offers some relief on high-cost debts like credit cards and auto loans—a positive step toward saving money!
