I hope you never encounter this scenario, but I want to share a few helpful tips in case you ever do:

1. Shut all windows and doors to prevent smoke and embers from entering.

2. Prep your car for an evacuation by backing it into the garage or driveway, keeping windows closed.

3. Don’t wait for mandatory evacuation orders if you feel unsafe.

Standing in a doorway during an earthquake is outdated. Today’s guidance is Drop or Lock, Cover, and Hold On.

Drop to hands/knees.
Lock walker or wheelchair wheels, if possible.

Cover your head/neck under a sturdy table/desk.

Hold on until shaking stops.

If no shelter’s nearby, get low beside an interior wall (away from windows) and cover your head/neck. Don’t run outside during shaking. I recommend practicing this with your family and friends.
