Sunday Mornings in the Valley
Every community has names that deserve to be remembered.
Not because they sought recognition...
But because they answered a call greater than themselves.
Standing in front of the Little League field at Lukasik Field in Dickson City is a plaque honoring three brothers whose lives of service reached far beyond our Valley.
~Capt. Bernard F. Lukasik was an Air Force advisor-pilot who was posthumously awarded the Air Force Cross for extraordinary heroism in Vietnam.
~Lt. Col. Joseph L. Lukasik was an Air Force fighter pilot who tragically lost his life during a NATO training mission in Turkey.
~Lt. Col. John A. Lukasik served as an Air Force officer, flying C-130 and C-141 aircraft before completing his career as a Professor of Aerospace Studies.
Many longtime residents still remember when the sports complex was known as Crystal Park.
It was later renamed Lukasik Field during a community dedication ceremony, ensuring that the service and sacrifice of these three brothers would never be forgotten.
Every season, families walk past this plaque on their way to the ballfield.
Many people pass this plaque without ever noticing it.
Maybe this Sunday is a good day to slow down.
Read it.
Remember their names.
Because the true measure of a community isn't found in what it has...
It's found in the people it raises, the values they carry, and the legacy they leave behind.
Have a wonderful Sunday in The Valley!
