On Monday, Oct. 12, we honor the Indigenous peoples and Tribal Nations whose stewardship of the land we call Washington state stretches back thousands of years. Indigenous Peoples Day is a reminder to learn about the original caretakers of the places we live, work and explore, and to recognize the enduring contributions Indigenous communities make across our state every day.

This year’s theme, Following the Elders, reminds us to honor the knowledge, strength, and guidance of those who came before us while creating a healthier future for the generations still to come.

The day will include an Indigenous march, community feast and giveaway, Native food and art vendors, music, dancing, a fashion show, youth and family activities, and much more.

🎃 The crisp countryside fun of fall belongs downtown too, so we're partnering with the City of Spokane to bring Fall Fest to the heart of the city on the first Saturday in October. Come for the seasonal favorites, stay for the local businesses, activities and everything that makes autumn in Spokane worth celebrating.

Think art, urban pumpkin patch, petting zoo, carnival games, horse and carriage rides and more!

The Yakima River doesn't rush.

In our October calendar photo, winning photographer Tom Ring captures the river gently winding through a landscape painted in shades of gold near Thorp. Fall colors like these remind us to slow down, notice the turn of the season, appreciate where we've been and look forward to what's next.

Tom told us he's an amateur photographer who's never been paid for a photo before, making his calendar win especially meaningful. To us, too. Thank you, Tom, for sharing your talent and this beautiful piece of Washington.

🎉 The Washington State Combined Fund Drive First Week to Give is here! We're proud to support this statewide giving effort once again. This week, state and higher education employees who make, set up or increase a payroll deduction by $5 (or more!) to the charity of their choice will receive a Starbucks gift card as a thank-you from WSECU.

⚾🌲 From home plate all the way to the trails, beaches, waterfalls and all that our beautiful state has to offer, we’re all winners! Last week, we celebrated a WSECU Walks in the Park milestone with the presentation of a donation to Washington State Parks Foundation (WSPF) at T-Mobile Park.

Through our partnership, every walk by a Seattle Mariner during a home game translated into a $200 donation to Washington State Parks Foundation. This season, those walks added up to the full $50,000 contribution.

We're proud to invest in the WSPF and support their mission to ensure that the parks, trails, beaches, forests and public lands that connect Washington communities stay vibrant for generations to come. 💚
