I spent a lot of years responding to emergencies. One thing that career taught me is that when something unexpected happens, preparation matters.

The same is true for our finances.

Most of us have a first aid kit somewhere in the house. But if there were an illness, accident, job loss or family emergency tomorrow, would your family know where the important documents are? Who to call? What accounts exist? What needs to happen next?

That's the idea behind Financial First Aid.

On September 17, I'll be joining estate attorney Donny Knepper at The Preston of Rockville for a practical conversation about getting those pieces organized before they're needed.

Please join us and share with a friend or colleague!

I've been a paramedic, worked overseas, and after 16 years put that career behind me to do financial planning. Every job change came with new opportunities, and new paperwork.

One thing that often gets overlooked is an old 401(k). Its surprisingly common for people to leave a retirement account behind simple because life gets busy. Or they don't know what to do with it.

That's why, one week from today (August 12th at 12 Noon), I'm hosting a free webinar about the options available when you leave an employer. We'll walk through the common choices and answer questions along the way.

If you've changed jobs, or know someone who has changed, please join us! The webinar registration link is below.

A huge thank you to Cerena Anderson and everyone at The Preston for inviting Mason and me to the Frederick Keys game yesterday! We had an absolute blast cheering on the Keys, enjoying some ballpark food, and spending quality time together.

I'm grateful for the relationships this community has given me, both professionally and personally. Thanks again for such a fun event!

Coffee break thought...

If you or someone you know has changed jobs over the years, there's a chance old 401(k)s are sitting with a former employer.

While I was having coffee today enjoying the great weather, I was thinking about how often this comes up in conversations. Many people simply aren't sure what their options are.

This is exactly why I am hosting a lunch webinar on August 12th at 12:00 Noon. We'll walk through the four common options for old 401(k)s, explain what each one means, and discuss factors to consider before making a decision.

Wednesday night, I had the opportunity to participate in a panel discussion at Manor Country Club. The discussion focused around Aging Well By Design and featured two other amazing professionals Donny Knepper and Cerena Anderson, moderated by Hope Dolan.

We had a great conversation about preparing for the future, from financial planning to legal considerations and family conversations. Thank you to everyone who joined us and shared such thoughtful questions. It's always rewarding to be part of discussions that help people feel more informed and prepared.

How many old retirement accounts do you have?

In the past year, I've had this conversation more times than I can count. Someone changes jobs, remembers they still have an old 401(k), and then asks "Am I supposed to do something with it?"

The answer isn't always the same, but understanding your options is very important!

That's why I am hosting a virtual webinar on August 12th where we'll walk through the four common options for an old 401(k), what each means, and factors to consider when deciding what's right for you.

If you, a friend, or family member has an old 401(k), I'd love to have you join us! Registration details are at the link below:

Last month, Mason came home from preschool with an "About My Dad" questionnaire that he completed with his teacher. Apparently, I'm 16 years old, I like peppers, and I can't sing in the car. But one answer hit me hard. The question was, "What does your dad do for work?" He didn't say paramedic, diplomat, or financial advisor. He said, "Makes sure everything is OK."

I've reflected on that moment quite a bit, and I have to admit, I reveled in it. Of all the things I've done, the biggest impact I have right now is making sure everything is Ok. And honestly, I couldn't be happier about that.

Making sure everything is Ok has been a common thread throughout the last two decades of my life. The jobs and titles have changed, but the purpose has remained remarkably similar.

There are a few titles I've held that I've been very proud of, but "Daddy" is by far my favorite. The moments I spend with this little guy will always be some of the most special of my life.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there.

The best country artists don't just write for the moment — they write for the memories. For the road trips and the rides home, for the time with friends, for the years from now when a song brings it all back.

The memories that make life rich. It's the same philosophy that we bring to every client's financial plan.

Because your legacy isn't built on a one-hit wonder — it takes discipline, a strategy and someone who's there for you in every season of life.

Let's connect and start planning for what’s next.
