Another great morning of networking!

One of my favorite parts of what I do is getting out into the community, meeting new people, and building relationships. Whether we're talking about business, financial planning, or just what's happening around town, it's always time well spent.

A big thank you to Cerena at The Preston of Rockville, Jenn with Kentlands & Lakelands Magazine, and Karen with Your Way Homes for putting together another great Brews & Breakfast!

Great conversations, familiar faces, and plenty of new connections. Not a bad way to start a Thursday!

This morning, I took a step back from the usual routine to chaperone Mason's very first school field trip.

Between meetings, appointments, and the to-do list, it's easy to get caught up in everything that needs to get done. But today was a reminder of why we work so hard in the first place.

Being there for these little moments matters. Watching his excitement, spending time together, and getting to be Dad for the morning was worth every minute away from the office. We spend a lot of time talking about planning for the future, but I think it's equally important to remember what we're planning for.

Sometimes, the best investment we can make is simply being present.

I stopped by Neighbors Coffee in Rockville this morning for a meeting and, of course, had to sample the coffee ahead of our upcoming Retirement Roundtable. I’m happy to report we made a good choice!

Neighbors Coffee will be providing the coffee for our Retirement Roundtable on October 10 in Rockville.

We’re bringing together a small group for a relaxed conversation about preparing for retirement, navigating some of the decisions that come with it, and thinking about what you want the next chapter to look like.

What a great day yesterday at The Preston of Rockville. So great, in fact, I got to be there twice!

I started the morning with Brews & Breakfast, enjoying some great conversations, making new connections, and catching up with familiar faces. Then I was back in the afternoon for our Financial First Aid session, where we had an amazing conversation about being prepared for the financial “what ifs” that life can throw our way.

One quick Financial First Aid takeaway from the afternoon: Know where your important financial documents are, and make sure someone you trust knows too. When life throws you a curveball, simply knowing where to find what you need can make a stressful situation a little easier.

The only thing missing was Cerena! She was with us in spirit (and Zoom!) and I’m incredibly grateful to her for continuing to create opportunities like these. The Preston has become such a wonderful place to connect, build relationships, share knowledge, and bring people together.

Days like yesterday are a great reminder that some of the best things happen when you get good people in the same room, pour some coffee, and start a conversation. Thank you to everyone who made both parts of the day so enjoyable!

Over the years, whether serving in the military, working in diplomacy, or helping families prepare financially, I've learned the same lesson over and over again: the unexpected happens. The people who navigate challenges best aren't necessarily the ones who saw them coming. They're the ones who took the time to prepare before they arrived.

September is National Preparedness Month, and it's also a time when many of us reflect on the events of September 11th and how quickly life can change.

When most people hear the word "preparedness," they think of emergency kits, backup plans, and supplies. Those things matter. But preparedness also means having your financial house in order. It means knowing where important documents are, having the right protections in place, making sure loved ones know your wishes, and having a plan that can help your family move forward during a difficult time.

That's why this Thursday I'll be hosting Financial First Aid at The Preston in Rockville. We'll discuss practical steps you can take today to help protect your family, organize your financial life, and prepare for life's unexpected moments.

My goal is for attendees to leave with a few simple action items that can make a meaningful difference when it matters most.

I spent a lot of years responding to emergencies. One thing that career taught me is that when something unexpected happens, preparation matters.

The same is true for our finances.

Most of us have a first aid kit somewhere in the house. But if there were an illness, accident, job loss or family emergency tomorrow, would your family know where the important documents are? Who to call? What accounts exist? What needs to happen next?

That's the idea behind Financial First Aid.
