Short-term market movements can distract from long-term objectives.

While volatility often captures attention, markets have historically experienced periods of uncertainty, dislocation, and changing economic conditions. Investors who maintain a long-term perspective are often better positioned to evaluate opportunities objectively and remain aligned with their broader investment strategy.

Maintaining perspective allows investors to separate noise from signal and avoid decisions driven by emotion or headlines. In periods of dispersion and volatility, perspective is not just helpful, it is essential.

One of the most common gaps in a transaction negotiation is the difference between what sellers believe is valuable and what buyers are really underwriting to.

Sellers typically focus on revenue and how to minimize taxable earnings. Buyers focus on the quality of that revenue, customer concentration, CAPEX needs, and visibility to future earnings.

Sellers who can close the gap and communicate those items to buyers can improve outcomes by increasing competitive tension among the buyer pool.

Where do investment opportunities typically emerge?

Often, it's during periods of volatility and market dislocation.

Periods of divergence can create dislocations across asset classes and sectors. For long-term investors, these environments may present opportunities that are less visible during more stable periods.

Patience and a disciplined approach are necessary to identify opportunities amid the uncertainty.
