My face when my 34-year-old texts, “Mom, can you help me with the Wi-Fi?”

Sir.
You have a job.
You have a credit score.
You may even have a mortgage.

At some point, troubleshooting the router needs to become part of the independence package.

Financial planning with adult children can be funny because sometimes “they’ve launched” turns out to mean they’ve launched geographically.

Emotionally? Technologically? Financially?
Still buffering. 😂

I’ll be honest: I thought I was just here to look polished and keep the tissue paper under control.

But apparently I’ve become part of the whole “make people feel appreciated” operation.

I get packed with thoughtful things, sent out for meaningful moments, and trusted to make a strong impression without saying a word.

That’s a lot of responsibility for something with a lid. 💙📦

Well, that raises some questions.

Will my retirement income last?

Will Chanel still smell like my Coco?

And, perhaps most urgently, has my hairdresser been keeping up with her cardio?

Living longer is wonderful news. But a retirement that lasts 25, 30, even 35 years asks a little more from the plan than we once imagined.

Apparently, we’re not just funding the golden years anymore.

We’re funding the extended edition. 😂

We start out thinking we’re going to overhaul EVERYTHING.

But sometimes the best financial move is much smaller.
Increase the contribution.
Pay a little extra.
Make the appointment.
Open the statement.

You don’t have to run the marathon today.

Sometimes you just need to turn on the treadmill. ☕️

But one day it becomes something much more personal: "Can I retire?" turns into "What am I retiring to?"

Because yes, having enough money matters.

But we would argue that having a life you're excited to live might matter a bit more. 🤷🏻

Three TikToks in and suddenly we’re experts.

Retire at 35. Buy the dip. Open seven accounts. Start a side hustle. Buy Crypto. Never buy crypto. Something about passive income. Possibly a Lamborghini.

We actually love that people are learning more about money.

But there’s a tiny difference between financial education and building a financial plan around advice from a stranger whose ring light is brighter than his credentials.

The algorithm knows what keeps you watching.

It does not know your life.

Apparently, the tissue box thought its main responsibilities were Jan’s tendency to tear up over basically anything and taking care of Steve’s sniffles.

Then client meetings happened.

Turns out financial planning can involve retirement, loss, relief, big decisions, happy news, and the occasional moment when somebody just needs a tissue.

Poor thing came in expecting allergies. It forgot emotions. 🥹

A little different Friday thought from us today:
Love your people.

Call them. See them. Forgive them. Celebrate them. Tell them what they mean to you.

And take care of them in the less glamorous ways, too.

Make the plan. Put your wishes in writing. Make sure the people you love won’t be left trying to figure everything out during one of the hardest moments of their lives.

We were reminded this week that life can change without warning.

So yes, we think Friday is reason enough for celebration.

But then again, so is Thursday. And Tuesday. And an ordinary dinner with someone you love. ❤️
