👤 About the Speaker – Steven D. Johnson, Ph.D.

Steve Johnson served as the Farm Management Specialist for Central Iowa with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach for 21 years, retiring in early 2021.

He now consults with private industry, farm organizations, commodity groups, ag media, and a wide range of ag clients on topics including crop marketing, government farm programs, crop insurance, and risk management strategies.

Steve speaks at meetings, workshops, seminars, webinars, and conferences across the Corn Belt, bringing practical and timely insights to farmers.

His current “hot topic” is the evolving landscape of the farm bill commodity title, including expectations for increased funding for ARC/PLC programs and expanded subsidies for crop insurance products.

Hi, I’m Juan Castaneda, a proud native of Saint James, MN. I graduated from Saint James Public Schools and grew up in a bilingual English-Spanish household, which allows me to help clients in both languages. Many in the community know me by my nickname, “Cheech.”

After high school, I attended the University of Sioux Falls in South Dakota to study Mathematics and Business. I also competed in Cross Country and Track & Field while taking a full academic load. Balancing sports and studies helped me develop strong discipline and time management skills that I carry into my professional life today.

Although I didn’t complete my degree, I returned to Saint James and jumped into the workforce. My most recent jobs have been working night shifts at Smithfield Foods and assisting during the day at Harder Agency. I’m now a licensed Property & Casualty insurance agent at Harder Agency, and I take pride in making insurance simple and understandable for my clients. Whether you're buying your first home or reviewing your current coverage, I’m here to guide you every step of the way. I plan to be a fixture in our community, and in my new professional role,
