Good morning! Due to the freeze that is coming in, I wanted to give you some ways to keep your home from having any busted pipes. See below:
Interior Preparations:
~ Maintain Heat: Keep the thermostat set to the same temperature day and night.
~ Open Cabinets: Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warm air to circulate around plumbing.
~ Drip Faucets: Let faucets, especially those on exterior walls, drip slowly, or run a pencil-width stream to keep water moving.
~ Seal Leaks: Use caulk to seal gaps where cold air enters near pipes, such as dryer vents or electrical wiring.
Insulate
~ Pipes: Wrap pipes in unheated areas (basements, crawl spaces, attics) with insulation, foam sleeves, or heat tape.
~ Open Interior Doors: Keep doors open to allow warm air to circulate through the whole house.
Outside Preparations:
~ Disconnect Hoses: Remove, drain, and store garden hoses.
~ Shut Off Outdoor Water: Close the indoor valves that supply outdoor spigots, then open the outdoor faucets to drain remaining water.
~ Install Covers: Use insulated faucet covers on outdoor spigots.
~ Keep Garage Closed: Close garage doors to protect pipes located there.
I hope this helps!
