Meet Michael Barnett, our Assistant VP of Claims and this month’s Team Spotlight.

Michael is a seasoned claims professional with deep expertise in Florida’s complex property market and catastrophe response.

A recognized industry leader, Michael holds an MBA from Louisiana State University and a bachelor’s degree from Stetson University, and is Florida 6-20 and 2-20 licensed.

Outside of work, Michael is also a proud German Shepherd owner. His younger dog, Apollo, pictured here, turned four this September and was born the weekend of Hurricane Ian. Michael chose Apollo’s litter after spending months in the field handling Ian claims. His older German Shepherd, Worf, is six and was named after a Star Trek character, thanks to Michael’s wife being a big fan. Both dogs also have several AKC titles from Michael’s time competing with them.

Michael and his team are behind one of our simplest promises: We’ll acknowledge every claim within 24 hours.

A tropical system has to hit and sustain wind speeds of 39 mph to advance to “named storm” status.

Once intensity ramps up to 74 mph, the named storm officially attains hurricane status, and when winds cross the 111-mph marker, a hurricane is considered “severe” (Category 3 or higher).

Watching and/or listening to weather reports, tracking local weather advisories, and having a plan for peak hurricane season helps Floridians stay prepared.
