The Army taught me a lot about being strong. Life taught me that strength also means knowing when to ask for help.
September is Su***de Prevention Month, and as an Army veteran and someone who has battled depression myself, this one is personal.
Something social media doesn't always show is the whole story.
We post the smiles. The wins. The trips. The celebrations. The good days.
But you never really know what someone may be dealing with behind the pictures.
Sometimes the person saying "I'm good" is the person you need to ask twice.
So check on your people.
Check on the friend who always seems strong.
Check on the veteran.
Check on the parent carrying everything for everybody else.
Check on the person you haven't heard from lately.
And if you're the one who needs somebody, asking for help doesn't make you weak.
