NEVER FORGOTTEN: Today marks 11 years since we lost someone who touched the lives of so many. Officer Jared Forsyth, a beloved member of the Ocala Police Department, tragically lost his life in the line of duty while participating in fi****ms training.

During the training, a firearm was accidentally discharged and struck Officer Forsyth. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he sadly passed away from his injuries. He was 33 years old.

Jared joined the Ocala Police Department in 2012 and he loved spending time with those he cherished most. He is greatly missed.

Today, we remember Jared’s bravery and sacrifice to keep our community safe. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us.

⚠️🚴🚶The Police Department is conducting high-visibility enforcement operations to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety. This initiative will take place now through May 2026, particularly along S. Pine Ave., Silver Springs Blvd., US Hwy 27, and SW College Rd., which have the highest crash rates.

Our goal is to increase awareness, as well as educate on and enforce Florida traffic safety laws. Special attention will be directed toward speeding, blocking crosswalks, failing to obey pedestrian crosswalks, violations of right-of-way, failing to use lights at night—for both vehicles and bicycles—along with any other violations of Florida traffic laws. Many traffic crashes result from these violations and are avoidable.
