đź“‹ 1 Minute Risk Check
Test results may arrive hours or even days after testing takes place. When they do, is it always clear who is responsible for reviewing them and ensuring appropriate follow-up?
This week’s 1 Minute Risk Check:
âś“ Is responsibility for reviewing incoming results clearly assigned?
âś“ Is there a process for escalating abnormal or urgent findings?
âś“ Are outstanding results tracked until they are received and reviewed?
âś“ Is patient notification and follow-up documented?
âś“ Is there backup coverage when the responsible clinician is unavailable?
A reliable test result follow-up process can help reduce the risk of missed or delayed diagnoses and ensure important findings are acted on appropriately.
