One of my carriers recently lifted its restriction on rear-facing seats on golf carts, and it got me thinking about how many insurance questions can hide behind what looks like a pretty simple vehicle.

What happens when that golf cart:

Carries passengers on rear-facing seats?
Leaves the golf course and travels through the neighborhood?
Gets driven on a public road?
Is modified, upgraded, or capable of higher speeds?
Is involved in an accident and someone is seriously injured?
Is assumed to be covered by the homeowners policy… but isn't?
The biggest issue isn't necessarily whether you can insure the golf cart.

It's how it's being used, and whether the coverage actually follows that use.

As a broker, this is exactly the kind of situation where I don't want to simply say, "Yep, it's covered."

I want to ask the questions that uncover the gaps before there's a claim.

If you've got a golf cart, UTV, ATV, boat, or other recreational vehicle sitting around the property, let's talk about how it's being used and what options are available. The cheapest assumption in insurance can become a very expensive one after an accident.

Have a golf cart? Let's make sure your coverage makes sense for how you actually use it. ⛳️

Been getting lots of rain? Check your sump pump. Maybe the high water alarm, too.

My good friend, Jon, recently offered some insight on something I would never have thought to check. I'm sharing the following with his permission.

He writes, "Friends- when I purchase new tires I am rather neurotic about first thing
Checking all of the tires to make sure they are the right size tire and of course matching brand.

Yesterday we were helping one of our son’s by picking up his vehicle from an inspection for him. A tire had been added so I did my normal thing only to discover that one tire (not the new one) was the wrong size. So we took it immediately to where the originals came from and they swapped it out. The tire shop didn’t seem all that shocked of the error and who knows how long it was on there as this is not a car I worry about much except to help with oil changes.

So yesterday we also picked up Janea’s replacement vehicle (our previous one was totaled). We bought from a dealership in Illinois. So because of what happened with our son’s car yesterday I did a quick scan today and Low and behold the newest tire (that was added for it to be prepped to be sold) was the incorrect size.

I have an appt to get it swapped tomorrow.

I enjoy playing poker, but I can’t even calculate the odds of two vehicles connected to us from two different shops and two different states having this mistake at the same time.

I guess I share so that maybe you too will be neurotic enough to check that all four tires on your vehicle are the correct size. Apparently not all of the installers are checking. People make mistakes. I certainly do, but I will continue to be neurotic!"

Good stuff here from Suresh.

It is best to notify your agent when your teenager gets a learner's permit. Not all carriers provide coverage without disclosure.

Nineteen is too young.

I've worked as an insurance advisor long enough to have lost quite a few clients. Some of them were also "too young." Gone suddenly, assuming no one depended on them.

It's easy to think our employer-provided life insurance, if it exists, will be what we needed to be. Not just enough, but anything at all.

A policy that follows you through life for as long as you need it, controlled by YOU. That's peace of mind.

It's funny how often I think about insurance when I watch one of my favorite TV shows, The Office. Besides possible criminal charges and subrogation for Oscar, I have the same thought every time I see this scene.

The bottom half of Missouri isn't blushing... but it's still painted shades of pink due to the Extreme Heat. We might sound like a broken record with these heat safety tips, but we'd rather repeat ourselves than have someone suffer a heat-related illness.
✅Avoid outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
✅Drink plenty of water, sports drinks, or natural fruit juices to stay hydrated.
✅Avoid alcohol and beverages that contain caffeine as these tend to be dehydrating.
✅If outdoor activity is unavoidable, take plenty of breaks in the shade or in an air-conditioned environment away from the heat.
