🚨 ALERT TO LOCK 🚨

Mortgage-backed securities have fallen to their worst levels of the day—down approximately 25 basis points. Since many lenders released their initial pricing, MBS prices have dropped between 13 and 22 basis points, putting lenders in a position to reprice rates for the worse.

The move followed Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s more hawkish remarks at Jackson Hole. While he did not commit to a rate hike, he appeared less encouraged by the recent improvement in inflation data.

Could the market rebound? Yes. Mortgage bonds are sitting near support, while the 10-year Treasury yield is testing resistance around 4.71%. Either level could help bonds recover.

However, lenders are already exposed to enough deterioration to reprice. If you’re currently under contract and haven’t locked your mortgage rate, my short-term advice is to lock ahead of a potential worse reprice.
