DON'T COMBINE SPROUTED GRAIN YET: LEAVE SAMPLE ROWS 🌧️🌾
With 3–5+ inches of rain soaking fields around Omaha and 1–3 inches over Cedar Rapids, standing grain is at severe risk for premature sprouting and mold.
If your fields are taking a beating, follow these strict RMA guidelines to protect your standard revenue or yield claim:
• Leave Representative Rows Standing: You must leave unharvested sample rows across the damaged acreage.
• Let Adjusters Inspect First: Your insurance provider requires an adjuster to visually appraise the standing damage before it is cut.
• Avoid Claim Denials: Harvesting the entire field before the weather damage is officially documented can result in a direct denial of your claim.

🚨 2027 MCO PRICES ARE SET

🌽 Corn: $5.25/bu
🌱 Soybeans: $12.33/bu

Producers now have the opportunity to lock in MCO coverage using these projected prices.

But there’s an important decision to make.

By committing to MCO now, you’re locking in today’s MCO price — before the February price-discovery period that establishes the spring Revenue Protection/ECO price.

If corn or soybean prices rally between now and the end of February, the RP/ECO spring price could be higher.

And once you choose MCO, you cannot also carry ECO on that same coverage band.

So the question becomes:

Do you lock in $5.25 corn and $12.33 soybeans with MCO today — or wait and see what the spring RP/ECO price gives you?

There are real advantages to MCO, especially with its margin-based protection against county yield, commodity price and certain input-cost changes. But there is also upside price risk in committing this early.

🌽 SEPTEMBER WASDE UPDATE 🌱

USDA lowered its 2026 corn outlook:

• Corn production: 15.8 billion bushels — down 1% from August
• Corn yield: 178.5 bu./acre — down 2.2 bushels
• Soybean production: 4.53 billion bushels — up slightly
• Soybean yield: 52.8 bu./acre — up 0.1 bushel

The corn crop is getting smaller, but USDA still expects the second-largest crop on record. Soybean estimates remain steady.

As harvest begins, remember: national estimates don’t determine your crop-insurance claim—your actual production and the harvest price matter. Keep accurate production records and contact your Risk Associates agent if yields are coming in below expectations.
