When we say, “Thank a farmer…they’re feeding America,” I don’t think everyone truly understands what that means…especially when they find themselves behind farm equipment during harvest season.

The truth is, it isn’t just their harvest—it’s our harvest too!

That tractor or combine in front of you isn’t simply slowing down traffic. It is helping harvest the food and ingredients found throughout your grocery store.

Corn and soybeans help feed the cattle, hogs, and poultry that provide our meat, milk, and eggs. They are also used to make cooking oil, cereal, cornmeal, sweeteners, and countless other products. Wheat becomes the flour used in bread, pasta, cereal, and many of the foods families eat every day.

Farmers don’t want to hold up traffic…and believe me, they’re just as anxious as you are to get where they’re going. They’re moving large equipment between fields during a short, busy, and unpredictable harvest window. They’ll pull over when they reach a place where it is safe to do so.

If you’re meeting wide farm equipment on a narrow road and can safely pull into a driveway to let it pass, even better. That little bit of cooperation can make things safer and easier for everyone.

So when you meet farm equipment on the road this harvest, please slow down, leave plenty of room, and wait until it is safe to pass. Those few extra minutes of patience could protect the person helping put food on your table….and make sure everyone gets home safely.

Please give our farmers a brake….and a break….this harvest season. 🚜🌽

I recently had the privilege of meeting American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall and hearing him speak at the Indiana Farm Bureau Critical Issues Summit. He is a man of faith, a passionate advocate for American agriculture, and a leader who truly cares about the people behind it.

One message he shared has stayed with me: “It’s OK not to be OK, but it’s not OK to not talk about it.”

Farmers and ranchers face pressures that many people never see, and those burdens can become overwhelming. Please don’t struggle in silence. People care about you, and caring, judgment-free help is available.

I recently called 988 simply to better understand the process in case someone ever asks me about it. The person I spoke with was caring, supportive, and willing to listen.

The 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7 for all moments of crisis, emotional distress, or whenever you simply need someone to talk to. Call or text 988 anytime. It is free and confidential.

Speaking up isn’t weakness—it may be the first step toward realizing you don’t have to carry everything alone.

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the Indiana Farm Bureau Critical Issues Summit and delegate session. We discussed some of the most important issues affecting agriculture and rural communities while learning more about the challenges and opportunities facing farmers across the state.

I’m honored to have been selected as a delegate for Indiana, helping review, approve, or amend proposed Farm Bureau policies. Those policies can then advance through the grassroots process and help legislators understand the priorities Farm Bureau—the Voice of Agriculture—chooses to support or oppose. I’m grateful for the opportunity to represent farmers and help shape policies that could affect the future of agriculture.

Imported beef will be entering the U.S. market. What this ultimately means for cattle prices remains to be unseen.

Thankfully I offer a product that can help!

Livestock Risk Protection (LRP) allows cattle producers to protect against an unexpected decline in prices by establishing a price floor for eligible feeder cattle and fed cattle 13 to 52 weeks out! If prices remain strong, you can still benefit from the market. If prices fall below your coverage level, LRP may provide an indemnity to help offset that decline.

Coverage is federally subsidized, and the producer-paid premium isn’t due until after the end of the coverage period. Contact me, and we can look at current coverage levels, costs, and available ending dates.

Beef prices in the U.S have soared in 2026 due to a reduction in the nation's cattle herd.

Home Depot knew exactly what they were doing when they put out that Milwaukee Precision Blower demonstration. 😂 One little test drive later, and now I own a tiny red wind machine with a magnetic attachment holder I didn’t even know I needed.

The good news is, I can now get rid of several cheaper blowing devices to make room for this one… so technically, this was an organizational purchase. 🤣

Milwaukee owners—what’s your favorite tool in the lineup, and what do I “need” next?

August has certainly broken the recent pattern. We’re used to wet springs and dry late summers—but this much rain in August is something we haven’t seen in quite a while. 🌧️🌽🌱

This was sent to me from a farmer I work with closer to the Terre Haute, Indiana area. Hail damage to soybeans can look rough, but the actual yield impact depends heavily on the growth stage and severity of the damage. If your fields have been hit by hail, give me a call. We’ll look over your policy and discuss the best plan moving forward. It’s always better to report it and document the damage early.

I try not to grab breakfast out very often, but I was in a hurry this morning. McDonald’s charged me 90¢ for one slice of cheese—so when this little piece escaped the sandwich, you better believe I ate it!
