Happy National Farmers Day!

To every farmer and farm family, thank you. For the early mornings, the late nights, the meals eaten in the cab, and the plans changed because the work couldn’t wait. For caring for your land, your livestock, and your neighbors, even when you have plenty weighing on your own mind.

Working alongside farmers has given me a deep appreciation for the people behind every harvest. I’ve heard your worries, shared in your relief, and seen how much heart you put into what you do.

I’m grateful for the friendships this work has brought into my life. Whether you’re still out in the field or finally getting a little time to rest, I hope you know how much you’re appreciated.

Thank you for all you do, today and every day.

Here’s a debate worth having: The administration has announced temporary diesel-tax relief…..but why not make relief permanent?

Should diesel used to feed America and keep this country working be permanently free of fuel taxes?

In my opinion, it should. From the farmers growing our food to the truckers delivering it, diesel powers a whole lot of work that benefits all of us. If you’re burning diesel to grow something, build something, or get products where they need to go, you’re probably doing something we depend on.

I know qualifying farm and off-road diesel already gets fuel-tax breaks. But what about the truck hauling that farmer’s grain or bringing groceries to your local store? That work doesn’t stop when the calendar turns to January.

I can understand treating luxury and recreational use differently.

And yes, I understand those taxes help fund roads and bridges. Farmers and truckers need good roads, too. But taxing the fuel that moves our necessities also adds to the cost of getting them to us.

Would permanent relief help lower costs for businesses and families…..or would we just end up paying the difference somewhere else?
