🚧 Why is containment so important during mold remediation?

Today in Venice, FL, we set up containment around a kitchen island before beginning remediation work.

Containment helps isolate the work area from the rest of the home. When mold-affected materials are disturbed or removed, dust, debris, and mold spores can become airborne. A properly constructed containment combined with HEPA-filtered negative air when appropriate, helps prevent that contamination from spreading into unaffected areas.

💧 WHAT’S HIDING UNDER YOUR FLOORING?

Today’s water damage call is a good example of why a floor can look relatively normal on top while moisture is trapped underneath.

Once we began removing the affected flooring, the underside told a very different story. Water had made its way beneath the finished floor where it can become trapped and continue affecting materials you can't see.

That’s why proper water damage restoration involves more than simply drying what feels wet.

🚩 RED FLAGS EVERYWHERE — THIS IS WHY SECOND OPINIONS MATTER.

A homeowner recently contacted Mold, M.D. after another company performed mold air quality testing and recommended remediation.

We won't name the company, this is about educating homeowners, not attacking another business.

According to the homeowner, the air sampling pump was placed directly on the floor during testing. 🚩

Then the lab results came back “NOT ELEVATED.” 🚩

One sample contained 53 spores/m³ of Chaetomium, which can be associated with water-damaged materials and is worth investigating, but the lab's overall determination remained NOT ELEVATED.

Despite that, recommendations included:

• Microbial fogging
• Air scrubbers
• Cleaning/sanitizing the HVAC system
• Ozone generation 🚩

The homeowner wanted a second opinion. We performed our own assessment and air quality testing, and our independent lab classified the indoor samples as NORMAL, with no water-indicating fungi identified.

🔬 A mold spore on a report does not automatically mean a home needs remediation.

Testing should be interpreted alongside the inspection, moisture conditions, property history and laboratory findings as a whole.

Before spending thousands, ask: What exactly are we remediating, where is it, and what evidence supports it?

Sunday testing in North Port! 🔬🏠

Before you put everything back together, make sure the problem is actually resolved.

This homeowner had already completed the removal work and called Mold, M.D. to perform post-remediation testing before moving forward with repairs.

We collected both indoor air samples and surface swab samples from areas of concern to evaluate conditions following the removal work.

With the walls already open, now is the time to gather the information needed before drywall, cabinets, flooring and finishes start going back in.
