Most people think of a financial plan as something you build around your investments. But there's a lot more to it than that.

A plan that's really working for you brings together:

• Financial management: saving, borrowing, and managing debt
• Asset management: investing with purpose to build wealth
• Tax considerations: exploring opportunities to reduce or defer taxes
• Retirement planning: preparing for financial security throughout retirement
• Risk management: protecting against unexpected events
• Estate planning: planning for wealth transfer and legacy
• Business planning: aligning business and personal financial goals

When these pieces are connected, your plan starts to reflect the full picture of where you're headed.

Our research with Gallup reveals a confidence gap. Just over half of Americans (51%) are stuck in a financially conflicted middle ground. Surprisingly, even within the same income bands, financial experiences vary greatly. Some high earners feel stressed while some lower-income households feel secure and confident.

This shows that fulfillment can’t be reduced to a number. Instead, feeling prepared, having a plan and believing you’re on the right path are the biggest predictors of life satisfaction.
