Myth: "My general liability policy covers us if we have a breach."
Fact: General liability almost never covers cyber incidents. Data loss, ransomware and notification costs require a dedicated cyber policy.

Myth: "Cyber insurance only covers the cost of the attack itself."
Fact: It also typically covers legal fees, regulatory fines, credit monitoring for affected customers and business interruption losses while you recover.

Myth: "We don't have anything worth stealing, so we're not a target."
Fact: Cyber criminals often aren't after trade secrets. Customer payment data, employee records and basic business credentials are valuable enough to be worth the effort.

Fall is one of the best times of year to do a little home maintenance. Why? Because checking off just a few tasks can help prevent claim-related issues if you need to file one due to fall or winter storms.

Here's what to check before temperatures drop:

1️⃣ Clear your gutters and downspouts. Clogged gutters cause ice dams, and carriers can deny damage claims if maintenance neglect contributed.

2️⃣ Have your roof inspected. Pre-existing damage found after a winter storm can complicate a new claim.

3️⃣ Insulate exposed pipes. Gradual freeze damage is typically excluded from coverage, but sudden burst damage is usually covered.

4️⃣ Service your furnace and fireplace. Carbon monoxide incidents and heating-related fires spike during winter, and documentation of regular service strengthens your position in a claim.

5️⃣ Check your weatherstripping and seals. Water intrusion from gaps in doors or windows can be classified as a maintenance issue.
