The passing of William R. “Bill” Burton III

It has been an honor and privilege to work alongside my father, uncle, and aunt for the past 22 years at our family-owned business, Consolidated Insurance Consultants. During this time, we’ve been fortunate to welcome many associates who have become more than just colleagues—they are now part of our extended family.

It is with profound sadness that I share the passing of my father and our Chief Financial Officer, William R. “Bill” Burton III, on August 31, 2025.

Please keep in your thoughts and prayers our team, my uncle Darrell Burton, my aunt Margie Burton, my wife Lynn, my sisters Andrea Jacobsen, Wendi Simpson, Stephannie Bourgeois, and Lindsey Bickel, along with their families. Most especially, we ask that you hold my mother, Joanie Burton, in your hearts—she has always been the guiding strength and heart of our family.

Safelite completes its first recalibrations on Mercedes and Honda models, performing a total of 600 recalibrations for the year.

2018

High-volume automakers make a voluntary commitment to equip new models with advanced safety systems.

2019

Roughly 67% of new vehicles are equipped with advanced safety features and require recalibration after windshield replacement.

2022

Safelite completes its first recalibration on a Tesla.

2023

About 95% of all new vehicles are equipped with a forward-facing camera.





2024

More than 50% of vehicles require recalibration after windshield replacement.

NFIP Reauthorization Update


Government Building


Authorization for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is due to expire on September 30, 2024. Congressional leadership in the House and Senate has negotiated a bipartisan continuing resolution (CR) that extends government funding and reauthorizes the NFIP through December 20, 2024. Congress is expected to pass the CR this week, before the September 30th deadline. This extension funds the government and ensures that the program will continue to operate with full authority through the upcoming election into mid‑December.

Once Congress returns to Washington after the election, they will begin work on extending the government ‐ and reauthorizing NFIP ‐ likely through early next year. The timing of that extension could depend on the results of the election. The Hartford will continue to collaborate closely with our partners in the industry to encourage swift action and avoid any lapse in the program.
