A message for our elders. Please have your identity and relationship documents in place. I learned that in the event of an audit, in regards to the proving of filing status, a Marriage Certificate may need to be produced, to prove the Married Filing Jointly status.
What if a couple has been married for 75 years and then all of a sudden that certificate is needed...
Know where it is, make copies, order a new copy and make sure the children know where it is, keep it with all relevant documents, including your birth certificates. If you were born in 1920 (age now 101), you may need to see if your states Hall of Records even has those documents, either paper copies or digitized copies.
On a very serious note: In regards to your social security. Make sure that you have listed your wife/husband/spouse as the beneficiary for their survivor's benefit. If you pass away and no beneficiary is listed, you will not receive that money.

Just an FYI, 1040, 1040-X and 1040-ES payments submitted via e-File have a slight delay in processing via the IRS. Do not re-submit payments if you have already sent payment in.
