Back to school season stinks!
It stinks for a lot of reasons, shopping for school supplies, adapting to new schedules, dealing with the kids meeting new classmates and adapting to new teachers, not the least of which is the end of summer break.
College drop off is the Grand Daddy of them all.
I expected to be sad that the kid who I've spent the last 18 years doing, well... everything for his well being is now (mostly) on his own. I didn't expect to spend the next few days questioning every parenting decision that I've ever made.
He'll be OK. He's a great kid who is smart and works hard and is quietly hilarious. I'm pretty sure I'll be OK too, eventually!
Here's what I love about Back to School, it's a chance at a new beginning.
In this case it's a new beginning for both of us. It's obvious for him it's new friends, new teams (hopefully), and a chance to learn so many things.
For me it's a little more subtle, what am I going to do with this new found time? How can I get better for those who I serve? What can I learn? What do I actually enjoy doing? How can I enrich the lives of my wife and younger son?
Cheers to new beginnings and for all the parents packing their kids off to school, pre-school, kindergarten or an advanced degree, I see you. To all the students, get after it and have yourselves a year!
