Spring is here and so are the storms! Damaging weather has already affected several in our communities! Read through this bit of information from Prairie Mutual Insurance Association, it's very helpful!
For anyone interested in what hail damage looks like on a composition shingle roof, this is a textbook example from yesterday’s storms in the Hedrick area. Dark circles called “bruises” are visible where the hail stone has fractured the fiberglass mat that makes up the structure of the shingle. This is an extreme example, and one of the worst I’ve personally seen in 17 years in this business. The extent of damage can be influenced by age, condition, and quality of shingle; slope of the roof; whether there are multiple layers of shingles on the roof, as well as other factors. Because of the variables involved, it is entirely possible for one house to have damage to the roof, and to have no damage to the roof of the house next door.
It’s good practice to get referrals from any contractors you are thinking of hiring to make repairs, especially if they are not local companies. You are responsible for all repairs; your insurance company does not have any control over who you choose or the quality or outcome of the repair - that is between you and your contractor.
