As 2025 comes to a close and I'm proud to report that this year we were able to assist in the purchase of a second home in Florida, for a customer, two new cars for two others and the establishment of a Lima farm for yet another. All dreams are on the table and we try to make them all happen. Our toughest accomplishments has been medical treatments, some successful, some not. We look forward to 2026 and wish you all a happy New Year!

Boy has it been an emotional year. Which brings me to remind you all, that when you are emotional, it is not a good time to make any decisions. There are so many scammers out there and they are using all sorts of methods to get you to send them money. Times are tough, and they will play on your emotions to get you to do things you know you should not do.
If you are or are not in this state, remember some of these things.
You should NEVER use Venmo to send money to people you do not know. Whether you have been talking to someone whom you have never met, or someone is trying to play on your emotions to purchase something you have always wanted don't send money to them. You have no idea where they are at or if they have the item you desperately seek, boats, tractors, dogs, it doesn't matter. DON"T go to Walmart and buy gift cards and then read the back and front to them. You will never receive what you thought you were going to get. People are cruel and your feeling are going to be hurt, you will be out the money, and you are going to feel stupid. If you feel that you are going to go this route, please call and I am going to try to talk you out of this. While the business is to help you along the investing route, it is now on a crusade to help people from falling into these scams, whether it be to purchase something or telling you that you need to call them. The IRS has been the most popular. THEY WILL NEVER CALL YOU.....NEVER. Please as we navigate through these tough times, heads up people!

Unfortuanately scammers are upping the game.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 21, 2021

Marc Malon, Office of the Attorney General, [email protected]

Augusta – Attorney General Aaron M. Frey and Securities Administrator Judith Shaw are warning the public of a new phone scam from a caller claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service.
In this scam, the caller tells the recipient that because he had previously invested in binary options, he is now an accessory to an international drug smuggling ring and having an offshore bank account. The caller said he would need to notify the local District Attorney and the Maine Attorney General and then played what sounded like a police scanner, claiming to be having communication with the law enforcement officials via two-way radio. The caller said they could settle the matter by either having “agents” go to the individual’s house to arrest him, or he could pay a $1,000.00 bond.
“If you receive a call like this, don’t be fooled,” said Frey. “No government agency will call you to demand you settle alleged criminal violations by either agreeing to arrest or paying a sum of money.”
Administrator Shaw noted, “while this call was clearly meant to scare and intimidate the recipient with exaggerated claims of criminal conduct associated with an investment, investors should use caution when investing in binary options.”
A binary option is a type of all-or-nothing investment contract where the investor predicts the value of an underlying asset (currency, stock, etc.) at a predetermined time or date in the future. If the investor correctly predicts the asset price at the end of the contract, which can be just a matter of minutes, the investor receives the payout agreed upon in the contract. If the investor is incorrect, the investor loses the entire amount invested. Binary options are often promoted to investors by unlicensed overseas companies through unsolicited calls or emails. The investment offers often contain promises of receiving matching bonus money after you invest. Once the investor sends their money, the company stops responding and eventually disappears.
Consumers can contact the Maine Attorney General’s Office with questions or concerns about these kinds of scams or other issues they have had with a business. They are encouraged to contact the Office of the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division at: State House Station 6, Augusta, ME 04333-0006 or by email at [email protected], or telephone at 1-800-436-2131.
Administrator Shaw urged anyone who has questions about the authenticity or legality of an investment opportunity, or about the individual making the offer, to contact the Office of Securities. Information about advisers, salespersons and investing is available at www.investors.maine.gov, by calling 1-877-624-8551 or writing to the Maine Office of Securities, 121 SHS, Augusta, Maine 04333-0121.

I am learning of more clients that have received their PPP loan forgiveness. This is terrific news. I know some people are waiting to see if their loan is going to be forgiven, but are not filing the forgiveness application. You will need to file the forgiveness application and if the loan was originally for the 8 weeks take advantage of the extension and go the full 24 weeks. You need to make any adjustments before the end of the 24 weeks. Please check with your lender if you feel you need not do this.
Congrats to those who have had their loans forgiven. It really helped you through a horrible time.

For those of you that I did your PPP forgiveness applications, I have been notified that the forgiveness paperwork is arriving with the paid in full note from the SBA. Be on the look out for the paperwork and keep in a safe place. It will need to be retain for 6 years and you will also need it when you do your taxes.

This truely was a great program that President Trump initiated in the spring.
