A: Sometimes! Whether lab work is required can depend on several factors, including your age, height & weight, medical history, the amount of coverage you’re applying for, and the insurance company’s underwriting requirements. Some policies may require an exam and lab work, while others may not.

Q: Does my homeowners policy cover a vacant home?

A: Generally, no. A standard homeowners policy typically isn’t designed to cover a home that is left vacant for an extended period of time. Vacant homes can carry additional risks, such as vandalism, theft, undetected water damage, and maintenance issues that may go unnoticed when no one is living there.

Some policies may have endorsements available to add coverage for a vacant home, depending on the circumstances. Be sure to talk with your agent before leaving a home vacant to make sure you have the coverage you need.

Happy Friday!! That means it’s time for another FAQ 🤔

Q: Do I need flood insurance if my home isn’t in a flood zone?

A: We say yes! Ultimately, anywhere can experience flooding depending on how severe a weather event is. Unprecedented things happen, like what we saw in North Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Homes and mountain cabins that had never been considered at significant flood risk experienced devastating flooding.

On the bright side, X-zone flood rates are relatively inexpensive because these areas are considered lower risk. Since flood damage is always excluded from a standard homeowners policy, we think the added protection can be well worth the peace of mind!
