AWFUL SHOPPING EXPERIENCE at KOHL’S IN SUMMERVILLE!
Yesterday, I went to Kohl’s in Summerville to grab my kids something to wear. I noticed that I was being followed when turned around and a white employee was standing behind me. She asked if I needed help and I said no. I left that section (Nike Shirts) and went back to the graphic tees section. A black employee then popped up asking if I needed help. I replied no. I noticed she started fixing stuff that didn’t need fixing to watch me. I also heard her whisper something on that walkie-talkie. I continued my shopping. Then once I was done I headed to the registers. As I walked to the register employees were popping out of everywhere like in that scene on The Wizard of Oz when the munchkins were telling Dorthy “Follow the yellow brick road”. As I approached the register, a young man had his walkie up and I heard “Does anyone still have eyes on the woman in the gold dress?” I was embarrassed and pi**ed. At this time something rang up twice, this employee was so discombobulated that he couldn’t even put his code in to take off the extra scan. I had to move to another register. I completed my purchase, went to the car, and called my husband. He asked me why I still made the purchase and suggested that I take the stuff back. I did!

I asked for the manager and Heather, an assistant manager came to speak to me. Her demeanor said “What do you want” I explained my experience and disappointment. Her response was “I understand”. I asked why I was followed. She told me an employee identified me as someone who had been there before. I laughed and said so you use all of your employees to watch me? I had a small purse and a fitted dress on! Where would I put the items if I was stealing?
It bothered me because the manager never apologized, she kept saying she understood. But how could she understand? She wasn’t followed around the store. I told her that I wanted to return the items I purchased. While I was returning the items one of the black employees who was watching me decided to come up and mouth to me “Are you ok?” I said “NO I AM NOT AND YOU ARE ONE OF THE REASONS. I am disappointed with the shopping experience I received today!” She backed away.
Disclaimer: I did spend a lot of time in the store and I was back and forth from men’s shirts to men’s socks to men’s shoes….then kid’s shirts, kid’s socks, kid’s shoes! I was trying to find Nike slides and socks and a shirt for my 3 kids! All in the same color scheme but I’m sure I’m not the only one that’s done that.
I WILL NEVER SPEND ANOTHER DIME IN KOHL’S IN SUMMERVILLE!
