Did you know that higher-income Medicare beneficiaries may pay more for their Medicare Part B and Part D coverage?

This additional cost is known as IRMAA (Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount) and is based on your income from two years prior. Understanding how IRMAA works can help you plan ahead and avoid surprises when budgeting for healthcare in retirement.

Medicare Part B is the part most people use when they go to the doctor.

It helps cover doctor visits, outpatient care, lab work, preventive services, medical equipment, and many services you receive outside the hospital.

Here is the important part: Part B usually does not pay 100% of everything. After the deductible, Medicare typically pays its share, and you are responsible for your share.

That leftover cost is one of the reasons people look at either a Medicare Supplement plan or a Medicare Advantage plan.

The card is important. The coverage strategy behind the card is even more important.

A lot of people say, “I’m going on Medicare,” as if Medicare is one simple card that covers everything.

It is not.

Medicare has different parts. Part A is mainly hospital coverage. Part B is mainly medical coverage, such as doctors, outpatient care, testing, and preventive services. Then you may need to decide how to handle prescriptions, dental, vision, hearing, and the out-of-pocket gaps Medicare does not fully cover.

The biggest mistake I see is people waiting until the last minute and assuming it all works like their employer plan. It does not.

Medicare is good coverage, but it has rules, choices, and gaps. The key is understanding those choices before you are sitting in a doctor’s office trying to figure it out under pressure.

Medicare Part A is often called hospital insurance.

That sounds simple enough, but here is the part people miss: Part A does not mean the hospital is free.

Part A generally helps cover inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility care, hospice, and some home health care. But there can still be deductibles, copays, and rules around how long care is covered.

I meet people all the time who thought, “I have Medicare, so I’m all set.” Medicare is a foundation. It is not a blank check.

Understanding Part A matters because hospital bills are where the numbers can get ugly fastWant a simple Medicare checklist before you enroll? Comment “CHECKLIST” or message me.

Kudos to our advisor, Patti Lemone, who represented Benefit Advisors Group at the Health & Wellness Fair at The Arbors at Stoneham!

We love being involved in our local communities and helping people understand that Medicare isn't just about health insurance. Many valuable benefits and programs often go unnoticed, including nutrition counseling, caregiver support through the GUIDE program, and much more.

As Medicare continues to evolve, personalized guidance has never been more important. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, and we're honored to help our neighbors make informed decisions with confidence.

Is there a "best" age to retire? According to retirement experts, the answer depends on your personal circumstances, including your health, finances, retirement goals, and when you plan to claim Social Security benefits.

Retiring earlier may provide more freedom, while delaying retirement could increase your Social Security benefits and give you more time to build savings. Before making a decision, it's important to consider factors such as healthcare costs, life expectancy, debt, and overall retirement readiness.

Memorial Day carries a quiet weight.

Today the pond seemed to understand that — calm, serene, and still except for the gentle ripple of the water and the sounds of nature all around.

The splash of a fish, the breeze through the trees, and the fading light at sunset have a way of slowing everything down for a moment.

Fishing days like this remind us to appreciate the peace, the people we love, and the freedom to enjoy simple moments outdoors. Wishing everyone a peaceful Memorial Day evening.
