Medicare beneficiaries can now get free over-the-counter COVID-19 tests.

Medicare has a new initiative that will cover up to eight over-the-counter COVID-19 tests each calendar month, at no cost to you. Who’s eligible? Medicare will cover these tests if you have Part B, including those enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan.

The federal government has recently created a website for every U.S. household to order up to four free at-home COVID-19 test kits. Test kits can be ordered at https://zcu.io/fpUv and orders will ship for free.

Every home in the U.S. is eligible to order 4 free at-home COVID-19 tests. The tests are completely free. Orders will usually ship in 7-12 days.

The 2022 Medicare Part B premium and deductibles have changed from last year. Medicare Part B covers physician services, outpatient hospital services, certain home health services, durable medical equipment, and certain other medical and health services not covered by Medicare Part A.

Each year the Medicare Part B premium, deductible, and coinsurance rates are determined according to the Social Security Act. The standard monthly premium for Medicare Part B enrollees will be $170.10 for 2022, an increase of $21.60 from $148.50 in 2021. The annual deductible for all Medicare Part B beneficiaries is $233 in 2022, an increase of $30 from the annual deductible of $203 in 2021.

Don't forget, if you have a Medicare Supplement plan G then you will pay the first $233 for medical bills that involve Part B services such as a doctors appointment etc.
If you have a Medicare Advantage plan or a Cost plan then you would need to see the plan details to determine what if any deductible or co-insurance applies.

For Nebraska residents looking for more resources regarding Covid 19 Vaccinations here is a link to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Service website. I did not have a chance to look over everything on this sight but it does appear to have quite a bit of information and tools to utilize. If your looking for more information this may be a good place to start.

Vaccination will play a critical role in protecting Nebraskans against COVID-19 as well as slowing the spread of the virus. DHHS, local health departments and other partners are planning for the arrival of COVID-19 vaccine in Nebraska. DHHS has worked to ensure that inclusion, transparency, and a so...

A Late Enrollment Penalty (LEP) is an unwelcome surprise and can be confusing and frustrating. Here are some rules to remember.

Late Enrollment Penalty for Medicare Prescription Drug Plan

• Medicare beneficiaries may incur a late enrollment penalty (LEP) that is added to their Part D premium if there is a continuous period of 63 days or more, at any time after the end of the individual's Part D initial enrollment period, during which the individual was eligible to enroll, but was not enrolled in a Medicare Part D plan and was not covered under any creditable prescription drug coverage.
• Medicare plans that offer Part D benefits are required by CMS to notify enrollees in writing if they determine that a gap in coverage exists as described above. Members will receive instructions from the Medicare plan on how to attest to creditable coverage and will provide a due date for response.
• If a valid attestation is not received by the due date, Medicare will impose the LEP which will be communicated by the Medicare plan. When this occurs, the member will receive instructions on the conditions and processes for filing a 'reconsideration' (appeal).
• Members have 60 calendar days from the date on the LEP letter to request a reconsideration request of the LEP. If the 60-day timeframe for filing an LEP reconsideration has expired, the enrollee may request a good-cause extension, but must include an explanation why the request is late. If it is approved the LEP will be removed in the next billing cycle.

If you are aging into or otherwise new to Medicare, in order to avoid a LEP, you should enroll in (and remain continuously enrolled in) a Medicare plan that offers Part D benefits when you first become eligible unless you have creditable prescription drug coverage through another source, such as a current or former employer or union.

Since I am hearing back from a number of people not sure what the Medicare B deductible is for 2020 I thought I would re-post it again.
For 2020 the Medicare part B deductible is $198. So if you have Medicare Supplement plan A, B, D, G, K, L, M, or N you will have to pay the first $198 for Medicare part B services. An example of Part B services would be a doctors office visit or outpatient services.
Remember this deductible will start over January 1st of every year and each year Medicare decides what the new deductible will be. If you have any questions please contact me.
