Today is National Farmers Day. 🌾

Less than 2% of Americans are directly involved in production agriculture, yet that small group of people carries a pretty big responsibility.

Around 95% of U.S. farms are family farms. Families growing the food, feed and fiber we all depend on while taking on a whole lot of risk to do it.

Farmers put a crop in the ground without knowing what the weather is going to do, what the market will look like at harvest, or sometimes even what it will cost to get that crop across the finish line. We don’t get to set the price of what we sell, and we sure don’t get to set the price of what it costs us to grow it.

But we keep going.

Agriculture has come a long way. Better genetics, better equipment and technology have allowed farmers to grow more with less and become more efficient than generations before us. But at the end of the day, farming still comes down to families willing to take the risk, put in the work, take care of the land and have enough faith to do it all over again next year.

So today, be thankful for the farmers. But more than that, support agriculture and understand what it takes to keep farmers farming.

Because we don’t just need farmers today. We need to make sure the next generation can afford to farm tomorrow.

Happy National Farmers Day to all of the farm families out there doing their best to keep going. 🌾🇺🇸

🚙 THINGS I WISH EVERYONE KNEW ABOUT BUSINESS INSURANCE

“It’s my personal vehicle, so my personal auto insurance covers me no matter how I use it.”

Not necessarily.

How you use a vehicle can matter just as much as who owns it.

Maybe you're:

🔹 Driving to job sites
🔹 Making deliveries
🔹 Hauling tools or equipment
🔹 Visiting customers
🔹 Running errands for the business
🔹 Having an employee use a vehicle for work

Using a personal vehicle for certain business activities can create coverage questions that a personal auto policy wasn't designed to handle.

And there's another side business owners sometimes overlook:

What happens when an employee uses THEIR personal vehicle for YOUR business?

💡 THE TAKEAWAY:

Personal vehicle doesn't always mean personal use.

If vehicles are part of how your business gets work done, make sure your insurance reflects how they're actually being used.

A five-minute conversation today is much better than discovering the difference after an accident.

🌾 Community Spotlight: Our Farmers
Some of the hardest-working people in our communities are out the door before most of us are awake and still working long after the sun goes down.
They deal with weather they can’t control, markets they can’t predict, equipment that never seems to break at a convenient time, and seasons that don’t care what the calendar says.
And through all of it, they keep going.
They feed families.
They support local businesses.
They help drive our rural communities.
They carry traditions that have been passed down for generations.
So this week’s Community Spotlight goes to the farmers across Northeast Nebraska.
Thank you for the long days, the early mornings, the risk, the resilience, and the work that too often happens without much recognition.
We appreciate what you do. 🌽🚜

🏈 Coach’s Corner | Issue No. 010
Communication is one of those things everybody says matters.
But when teams struggle, it’s often one of the first things missing.

Good teams communicate before the problem gets bigger.

Good leaders do the same.

That lesson works in sports, business, family, and life.

🧰 THINGS I WISH EVERYONE KNEW ABOUT BUSINESS INSURANCE

“They’re an independent contractor, so their insurance has nothing to do with my business.”

That can be a dangerous assumption.

If your business hires subcontractors or independent contractors, simply assuming they have the right insurance can leave some uncomfortable questions when something goes wrong.

Before work begins, it’s worth knowing:

🔹 Do they carry their own liability insurance?
🔹 Do you have a current Certificate of Insurance?
🔹 Are their coverage limits appropriate for the work they're doing?
🔹 Does your own policy have requirements involving subcontractors?
🔹 Could the way they're classified affect your insurance?

A handshake and an invoice don't tell you how someone is insured.

💡 THE TAKEAWAY:

If another person or company is doing work on behalf of your business, their insurance can matter to YOUR business.

Know who's working for you, know how they're insured, and make sure your own coverage matches the way you actually operate.

🚜 Farmers, when was the last time someone actually looked at the whole operation?
Your farm isn’t just a house and a couple pieces of equipment.
It’s land.
Machinery.
Livestock.
Outbuildings.
Liability.
Vehicles.
Employees.
And years of work tied together in one operation.
That’s why a farm policy shouldn’t be something you just renew and forget about.
A lot can change in a year:
- Equipment gets added
- Values increase
- Buildings change
- Acreage changes
- Operations expand
- New risks show up
If it’s been a while since someone sat down with you and reviewed the full picture, I’d be happy to take a look.
No pressure. No hard sell.
Just a conversation about what you have, what’s changed, and what may be worth reviewing.
