PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Current issues we are facing with the IRS. How it might affect you. This has been very stressful to say the least........ People paying their taxes and the IRS hasn't applied the payment, then the taxpayer gets a letter stating they owe the tax they paid and now assessed a penalty for not paying what they already paid. I recently had to go to the local IRS and what they told me was it is a systemic issue, nationwide and that is isn't just our customers that are being picked on (this is what it has felt like). They are going back several years now if it is past 3 years, they can't access some records or see where payments went. These are just a few things. Straight from the news room below: **Delay in processing electronic payments**The IRS has stated that some electronic payments are delayed and that taxpayers may receive IRS notices showing a “balance due” even though the payment was made. If you already paid (via Direct Pay, EFTPS, or bank transfer), the IRS systems might not have posted it yet, causing notices showing you owe.
**“Pending” status on payments** Even after your bank processes a payment, it may show as “pending” in the IRS online account or tax account until further handling is done. You might see an IRS notice or balance due even though the transaction was initiated.
**Errors in notices (balance due, CP14, etc.)**The IRS acknowledges that some CP14 (Balance Due, No Math Error) notices are sent out even when payments were made. The IRS may assert you owe when their records are lagging or in error. **Phasing out paper checks / requiring bank account deposit info** The IRS / Treasury are moving toward fully electronic payments. For refunds, paper checks will be phased out starting Sept 30, 2025 (as permitted by law). If you don’t provide direct-deposit info (or an approved exception), your refund or payment might be delayed. **Reduced capacity & staffing challenges**With POTENTIAL furloughs or staffing cuts (e.g., during government funding shutdowns), the IRS has limited ability to respond quickly or process cases. These limitations can slow resolution of disputes or erroneous notices. (ie, people might not owe a tax at all and still receive letter. **System modernization / technology constraints** The IRS is pausing or reevaluating some technology modernization efforts (e.g. in light of AI) which may affect underlying systems. Legacy or overlapping systems may produce glitches, posting errors, or delays.
May the force be with us🤪😭🙃
