As the up and coming ice storm approached we just wanted to remind everyone of a few things. First and foremost, after this storms starts please stay at home. Ice is way different to negotiate than snow. They are calling for our area to receive a significant amount of ice starting tomorrow and going into the early morning hours of Friday. Please take advantage of today in getting any supplies that you may need from the store. If you find yourself out in the weather tomorrow please keep a few driving tips in mind. First, slow down. Stopping distance on ice is way different than navigating snow. If your brakes lock up on ice, all you are doing is sliding and losing control of your vehicle. Accelerating and braking slowly will help keep your car under control. Increase your following distances between other vehicles. This allows for more reaction time in the event you have to try to stop suddenly, which on ice will not happen. Be cautious when it comes to passing other vehicles. This is very dangerous and could cause a collision. Lastly, 4 wheel drive does not really give you an advantage on the ice. If anything, it just means 4 wheel slide. We say this jokingly, but ice creates some very hazardous conditions and sometimes you do not even realize it is slick until it is to late. Please stay safe and use caution if you must travel.
