📞📧💝 Phone Calls. Emails. Donations. Oh my!
Everyone at THRIVE is busier than ever! We’re serving, answering as many phone calls as possible (please leave a voicemail if we miss your call 📲). Honestly, it’s been a madhouse here, but we’re proud to share that we’ve ramped up distribution of all kinds to help:
✅ Families affected by the furlough
✅ Those impacted by delayed or reduced SNAP benefits
✅ Our regular families struggling with inflation and other hardships
We’re lucky to have a fantastic team 💪 and we’re working hard to meet the needs of our community.

📊 WHAT WE’RE SEEING AT THRIVE
In the past two weeks, we’ve:
💸 Distributed $126,686 in aid
🙌 Welcomed 35 new volunteers
📞 Received 6,832 phone calls, a 40% increase over typical volume!

Last Monday, we hosted Congressman Bobby Scott, Mayor Phillip Jones, and City Councilman Rob Coleman, who joined us to serve families through the pantry and discuss the impact of lapsed SNAP payments. 📰 You can see the news coverage here: https://tinyurl.com/3drkzxcj and https://tinyurl.com/mr45a8r8

As a non-partisan organization, we invite everyone to pause and pray 🙏 for all of our country’s leaders, for unity, peace, and resolution.

🛒 HOW WE’RE RESPONDING
Last week in The Market, we served a stunning 1,062 people, up from 844 the week prior! How did we do it?
✨ Added 2 extra Market shifts
✨ Opened earlier and sorted food in hyper drive
✨ Launched Curbside Pickup on Thursday, fully rolling out this week to serve 40 more appointments weekly!
Our Market volunteers are hustling like never before 💥 and our waitlist is steadily shrinking as we ramp up everyday distribution.

💼 Meanwhile, our financial team has been just as busy!
This past Friday THRIVE joined the Furlough Blitz event at United Way of the Virginia Peninsula where we served 8 households with emergency assistance for rent or utilities, and financial coaching. Event partners included Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia and The Salvation Army of the Virginia Peninsula, a beautiful scene of agencies coming together in a critical moment. 🤝

We also served 10 non-furlough households last week. One was a single mom and her son who had been homeless for 4 years. Our rental deposit means they now have a roof overhead 🏠. She described her case manager as “Ms. Claus — but younger looking” because we genuinely care and bring “joy, peace, and happiness.” 💖

💡 WHAT YOU CAN DO
👀 Check in with your neighbors
Know a federal worker or contractor? They might be your child’s bus buddy’s parent, your church pew neighbor, or your next-door neighbor. Ask how they’re doing. Offer a meal, buy a coffee ☕, or simply lend a listening ear. Kindness means so much at this moment. You never know who around you might be hurting.

Non-expired baby formula
Size 4–6 diapers are in high demand and hard to come by. We’d love your help! 🙏 Donations can be dropped off Mon - Thurs 10-5pm, Fri 10-2 and Sat 9-12 at 12749 Nettles Drive, Newport News.
