Tax season is here! The IRS Form 1095-A is an important federal tax document that serves as proof of Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC) and for individuals to claim the premium tax credit, to reconcile any Advanced Premium Tax Credit (APTC) received, and to file an accurate tax return for the 2025 tax year. Covered California will be sending these forms to members by January 31, 2026.

It was time for a website refresh! Since opening our virtual doors in February 2014, we have been dedicated to supporting small and mid-size business owners in California with their employee benefits needs. Our initial focus was helping employers and employees understand their coverage, make confident decisions, and navigate their renewal options.

Important provisions of the recently passed bill that may impact you as an individual in California:

-The bill did not take away the employer tax exclusion, a big win for our clients in maintaining the ability of employers to offer employee benefits.

-The bill did not renew the enhanced premium tax credits, which means they will revert to the original Affordable Care Act (ACA) formula on January 1, 2026. This may result in some individuals who currently receive premium tax credits in the Individual market becoming ineligible during the upcoming open enrollment season which starts November 2025.

-Additionally, the bill requires verification of the following items prior to a beneficiary receiving a premium tax credit through Covered California:

Household income and family size
Whether the individual is an eligible alien
Any health coverage status or eligibility for coverage
Place of residence

Attention Orange County Blue Shield of California Individual/Family plan members:

Effective 6/16/25, Hoag Medical Group and Blue Shield of California have reached a new agreement. Hoag clinic and facilities will continue to accept Blue Shield Commercial (individual/family) HMO, PPO, and Medicare Advantage members as in-network.

HMO members who recently received letters stating Hoag would be out-of network effective 7/15/25, will receive “good news” letters/communications with information on the successful negotiation this week. Members will have their same Primary Care Providers (PCPs) with Hoag, no action is required.
