In 1964, Congress passed a resolution declaring bourbon to be a “distinctive product of the United States,” essentially making it "America's Native Spirit." But they didn't stop there. In 2007, Congress passed a bill (sponsored by the senator from Kentucky, of course) that made September Bourbon Heritage Month, which celebrates the tradition of bourbon craftsmanship in the U.S. and the fact that the first bourbon was distilled in the month of September.
